A freak accident shattered my life. Mindfulness gave me my life back and more.
For over 20 years I have taught Mindfulness Meditation to everyone from children, college students, to corporate executives, health care proffesionals, and law enforcement.

World Reknown Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh who is credited to helping spread Mindfulness in the West wrote a forward to my book. I had no idea back then that Mindfulness could help me beyond releasing stress and emotional distress.
However, I found out the hard way that Mindfulness could also relieve physical suffering when I fell and broke my femur bone, the largest bone in our bodies. I actually heard it break...twice when I fell. I had excruitiating pain that not even morphine and two other pain medications couldn't relieve.
Doctors called it a hip break because it controls the hip. All I knew then was I couldn't walk. On New Year's eve, I woke up from surgery with 3 screws in my leg and I couldn't even move a few inches in the hospital bed without the nurses's help.
My mind ran fear big time especially when my surgeon said he didn't know if the screws would line up my leg properly since I broke it in two places in a jagged, strange way. He said I may need another operation. I worried that I would be left with one leg longer than the other, and have a permanent limp.
I was angry and overcome with fear. The only thing I could do was to use Mindfulness to help me release fear and stress. The same way I used Mindfulness and taught thousands how to deal with their thoughts, I used it with the severe pain, allowing it to come up instead of suppressing.
Miraculously, I found what doctors know in hospitals. Using Mindfulness to manage pain, and your thoughts can help when medicine
cannot. Instantly my pain subsided.
When I had to learn to walk again from the fall, Mindfulness helped me with my frustration, and helped me to be patient with myself. Instead of beating up on myself for rushing around and not looking where I was going, and falling, MIndfulness helped me to be gentle and loving with myself.
This resulted in a speedy recovery according to my doctors. I was able to get off a walker, advance to a cane, and then shed that too, fairly quickly.
