THREE
KEYS TO SPORTING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE™
in COLLEGE
SPORTING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE™
is a passionate message WALTER H. JACKSON, Msc.D. has given to thousands
through his presentations and radio show interviews around the country. With
his one-of-a-kind technique and masterful story-telling ability, Walter is a
compelling speaker driven by his own personal moving story inspiring
audiences to live their dreams by embracing the right attitude.
Walter,
author of "Sporting the Right Attitude: Lessons
Learned in a Troubled Family" (coming Fall 2008), learned a set of
principles as an athlete which helped him to overcome life's obstacles. He
grew up in a low-income family living in a government housing project
witnessing domestic violence between his parents. At the same time he
attracted media attention as a rare four-sport athlete who played football,
basketball, baseball, track and field. Sports was his refuge from the pain
he suffered at home. But a fateful car accident stole his promising athletic
career, taking away his scholarship offers from top universities around the
country. Even worse, doctors predicted he wouldn't survive his coma and
multiple internal injuries.
INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE
Walter proved them wrong. With fierce
determination he learned how to walk again, and made a full recovery. He
enrolled in community college, and made the basketball team. But just when
he felt his life was getting back on track, Walter was devastated again. His
father was murdered by a stranger. The lost was unbearable to Walter, and he
dropped out of school. But it wasn't long before he realized that wallowing
in grief wasn't taking him forward. It was this critical period that he
decided to turn his life around by applying what he learned in sports to his
life. "When you get knocked down in life," says Walter, "Pick yourself up,
get back into the game of life...and Sport the Right Attitude!" With strong
determination, Walter enrolled and graduated from Sacramento State
University. He became a probation officer, and later a successful commercial
realtor. In 1993 Walter co-founded and was CEO of Believe In Yourself, Inc.,
a non-profit self-esteem and tutoring program for youths. He has also served
on the advisory board of the California State Prison. In
2001 he was inducted to the Black Sports Hall of Fame in his hometown of
Stockton, California. Few
speakers are qualified to motivate, inspire and educate by their own example
than Walter Jackson.
