Benefits of Mindfulness Meditation

by: Walter Jackson

Increased Appreciation of Life
Living in the here and now (mindfulness) helps you to enjoy life.  So often we speed in our busy world and miss simple pleasures of being present with our loved ones, enjoying the taste of our foods, or seeing a sunset.

Reduced Suffering
Physical Pain

Many pain clinics around the country are teaching patients Mindfulness.  Millions of people live daily with chronic pain, and analgesics and medical treatments simply don’t help.  Doctors are discovering alternative ways o overcome suffering by awareness which can dissolve pain..  Through Mindfulness, we are discovering  there is personal empowerment by using pain as our teacher.  What does this pain tell me about my life?

Emotional Pain, Compulsions and Addictions
More and more mental health professionals are using mindfulness skills with patients to help them become less entangled with damaging emotional pain such as fear, grief, anger, jealousy, shame, etc

Elevated Performance Levels
Mindfulness is focusing.  When we are focused we can perform any task more efficiently from our daily routines, to sports to work, or the fine arts.

Effects on Health
Mindfulness meditations increase brain alpha waves, and we find this deep relaxation affects our bodies in a positive way promoting total health.  We even find exercising easier and more pleasant because we’re more responsive to our bodies.

Improved Interpersonal Relationships at Work And Home
We can miss special moments with our loved ones and friends by failing to be present with them even for a few minutes.  We may be with them physically, but not emotionally. Mindfulness helps us to enjoy even the brief moments with those we care about.   We also find that Mindfulness skills allows us to build professional relationships with better communication.

Inner Growth
Most religions encourage us to be still and listen to our higher power, but often in our break neck paced world, it’s hard.  With  Mindfulness practice, we learn to calm ourselves and move out of the way for our higher power to direct us
